6th Grade Math Games for Free Online
Ah, the sixth grade. As the final year for your students before they graduate from elementary school, it can be a potent symbol for them growing into adolescence and preparing for the trials of secondary school. At this stage, kids can even feel that they’re too old to play silly educational games as part of their math class, but for the most part, many will cherish the nostalgia of playing digital learning games.
Children would have entered their first math class in elementary school armed only with some decent knowledge about arithmetic and other math lessons. Now, in their 6th Grade, they’ll be graduating with a much bigger arsenal of math concepts and competencies that can be applied in high school as well as in real life. Our collection of 6th grade math games for free online will reflect this increase in their math skills – with each game providing more challenging and stimulating problems to conquer.
Older children can sometimes find educational games to be a tad cheesy and outdated. Now that they’ve grown a little bit mentally, they could use a little reminder that the games on this page are only a method of assessment that happens to be more fun and casual. In the end, the problems and questions posed in our games might catch them off-guard with their difficulty – and that’s where the real fun can begin.
These 6th grade math games for free online can evaluate how effectively your soon-to-be elementary graduates have understood and internalized their math lessons.
Our games will prod their skills in various math topics, including their ability to form and simplify algebraic expressions; derive the values of perimeters, areas and volumes; work with squared roots, exponents and the rest of the elements in the order of operations; do consumer mathematics; and tinker with ratios, percentages, decimals and fractions.
Many game types are available for play from this webpage. For old times’ sake, your students might be interested in a classic game of Snakes and Ladders from their childhood. The only twist to the mechanics here is that each turn provides a hard math question for players to answer. Plugging in a wrong answer will result in their piece backtracking by a few paces, or retreating all the way back to the starting point of the board.
Other games that are listed here include a simple monster board game and some activities based off popular game shows on TV – specifically the ones where students will have to spin a wheel or answer trivia questions. Like with our Snakes and Ladders activity, your students need to provide correct answers to the math questions to stay ahead in the game.
